Revelation #7

Revelations #7 – Students (and everyone else) are exposed to 3000 advertising messages a day.  That blew my mind.  In theory, that means that students are exposed to 125 messages an hour and 2 messages a minute.  However, if it is to be assumed that most students sleep 8 hours a night and are not exposed to the messages while doing so, those numbers rise to 187.5 and 3.1, respectively.  Knowing those numbers means two things: 1. Students need a language to help identify and analyze the advertising messages and 2. Educators need to be more intentional about what they teach, avoiding lectures and instead relying on the power of images and activity since “images trump words every time.”
